LOADS OF NEW PHOTOS ADDED !
Going into Christmas we have been lucky to receive a large selection of pictures covering many aspects of life around the base during and after the war. With much thanks to David Grant for the supply of these pictures. The picture to the left here is a line of B-24 LIberators waiting for takeoff - an amazing sight, and the photo underneath this is a photo of a DAP Beaufighter firing it's guns at night in the gun butts
You can find them in the gallery and also in the WAAAF section.

UPDATE 20/11/11
Another call out for any stories, pictures, film or information that anyone has that they could contribute to the website. There must still be some pictures in a box in someone's house out there ! Please use the contact form to get in touch, would love to hear from you.
***Apology*** In the update on April 24 and also in the blog entry of the same date, some names were omitted in the credits. Noel Brettoner and Craig Carr have spent many years and thousands of hours researching the history of the airfield and also on the Tocumwal - Narrandera Branch Line. Their information on Captain McIntyre was published on the www.ozatwar.com website and is reproduced here on this site.

Amazing Video of the RAAF Pilgrimage
Thanks to Keith Webb and the Temora Aviation Museum, this is some stunning onboard footage of the RAAF Pilgrimage held recently. Shot from on board the Lockheed Hudson with the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire in formation during their flight, its a must see video. If you like this please check out Keith's other clips on YouTube.
26/4/11 UPDATES
There are plenty of new articles on the website for you to enjoy. In the Blog section there are a couple of new articles; one by Bob Livingstone on the operations of the B-24 Liberators at Tocumwal, and also the loss of two aircraft during the fire that destroyed one of the hangars.
Another article kindly supplied by Peter Dunn from his excellent www.ozatwar.com website describes the naming of McIntyre Airfield, as well as discussion about the mysterious crash that claimed the life of Captain P McIntyre.
Some more photos have been added to the gallery too !
And an external site that is well worth checking out is http://thetocumwalarchive.photoaccess.org.au/ which has photos and stories about the original housing from the Air Force Base and its subsequent removal to form a suburb in Canberra, ACT. Well worth checking out as it's something that is not often talked about, but a fascinating aspect that saw good use made of the original huts.

Did you get to the Pilgrimage?
What an event ! 50 plus aircraft, good weather, and plenty of visitors to witness a remarkable spectacle of aviation history. Even a little drama with the P-51 Mustang suffering a lost exhaust stub enroute from Temora to Tocumwal. But in true style, the curator from the RAAF museum happened to have purchased an identical exhaust stub hours before from a hangar in the area, where it had been recovered from a dam some years prior. Simply attached it to said aircraft and off they went again !!
Thanks to Keith Webb from Image Control, who has generously supplied some photos for the site. He was onboard the Hudson a lot, but also took other shots from other aircraft. See the gallery for the pictures of the airport and a magnificent aerial shot of the P-51
In other news, there is a new story in the blog section about the destruction of two B-24 Liberators when the hangar burnt down in 1945, kindly provided by Bob LIvingstone. There are pictures of this also in the gallery.

DON'T FORGET TO SEE THE RAAF PILGRIMAGE NEXT WEEK !!!!!!
This is a copy of the flyer for the Temora Museum - it lists some of the magnificent aircraft that will be taking part. Be sure to get to the Tocumwal Airfield on March 29 to witness a truly remarkable event.
Beginning in Temora on Monday March 28th, sixty antique and historic ex-military and civilian aircraft will take part in an air pilgrimage from Temora to Point Cook, stopping in Tocumwal and Ballarat. The aircraft will arrive at Temora throughout the day on Monday with a gala dinner to be held in the Temora Aviation Museum display hangar that night for all event participants. Tuesday morning will see the aircraft commence their departures from Temora, headed for Tocumwal and the Temora Aviation Museum will be offering free admission to all visitors from 8.30am through to Midday to view this historic event take place.
The Air Pilgrimage will be supported by Museum aircraft with the Spitfire Mk VIII, Hudson, Wirraway and Ryan all participating in the event along with many other antique and ex military type aircraft.
RAAF Director of Regional Events, Air Commodore Rod Luke AM said Temora, Tocumwal and Ballarat played an important role in Air Force history as regional bases. "They have been chosen because of the significant history of these three bases as World War II aircraft training locations," he said. "It is good for us to stop every now and again and reflect on our history and the service the Air Force has provided."
We want to encourage everyone to help celebrate this milestone by either visiting the Museum or the airfields at Tocumwal, Ballarat or Point Cook.
